What is benign arteriolar nephrosclerosis

Benign arteriolar nephrosclerosis is a kidney complication of hypertension, it has become the second disease which can progress to end-stage renal failure in the western countries, the incidence in China is also increasing day by day.

Generally, the pathological examination of kidney can be found to have small artery lesions if benign hypertension has sustained 5~10 years. Clinical symptoms of this disease appeared later than pathological changes, usually 10~15 years later after hypertension occur, while old people, patients with hyperlipemia or hyperuricemia may occur earlier. Because the renal tubules are sensitive to ischemia, the earliest clinical symptoms are often night urination.
There is protein can be examined in the urine routine test when the glomerular ischemic lesions occur, and mildly abnormal also can be found in the sediment microscopy(a small amount of red blood cells and granular casts). With the progression of the disease, patients will suffer from renal failure, serum creatinine increasing, until develop into chronic renal failure. Benign hypertension often cause damage to other target organs except the damage to kidney, patients will often be accompanied by a hypertensive retinopathy(arteriosclerosis, bleeding and leakage of retina), and some cerebrovascular complications of hypertension.
In conclusion, reducing the blood pressure to normal value is the key to prevent benign arteriolar nephrosclerosis, patients with hypertension should take treatment as early as possible to reduce blood pressure.
